The charity has been in existence since December 1979, when previous Charlton Kings charities, some dating from 1548, were combined and reformed from the ‘Charlton Kings Charity for the Poor.’
Its purpose is to provide relief for those in need in the “parish of Charlton Kings, in the County of Gloucestershire.” If there is a concern whether an applicant qualifies by residency a phone call to the Clerk will determine this.
The Trustees have a wide choice in the sort of relief that they can give out of the income of the Charity so long as the need is clear. Relief must be given only to assist people who are eligible under the scheme, must be related to the need in each case, and must be reasonable in the circumstances, taking into account any relief available from other sources.
Examples of this may be found in the scheme:- available to internet enquiries.
There are seven trustees, who serve terms of five years and who are supported by a clerk whose role is to collate all applications and present them to the Trustees at four meetings per year.
